SwiftKey
A popular keyboard app which learns and predicts your writing style including your favorite words, phrases and emoji. It has been named as one of the top apps of 2014 by both Google and Apple. It helps make you more productive by saving you keystrokes. SwiftKey estimates that it has saved its millions of users almost two trillion keystrokes and more than 23,000 years in combined typing. The app started out written for one language but now works with over 100 different languages.
SwiftKey was first launched in London in 2010. It’s head office is located in Southwark, London and there are other offices in San Francisco, United States, and Seoul, Korea. On the Google play store the app has been given 4.5 stars by over 1.1 million users. It is one of the best top rated keyboards on the Google play store as well. CNN has written that SwiftKey is “the number one third party keyboard, SwiftKey is a must have.”
Pros
Quick to learn: SwiftKey‘s prediction technology is the best of any app. Users have found that SwiftKey saves them a lot of time by learning what words they are used to typing and predicting which ones they will use while they are typing.
Supports multiple languages: SwiftKey supports over 100 languages and lets you select up to three languages to use at a time. This lets you switch between different keyboards by holding down the space key. This is a huge benefit for anyone who knows how to write in multiple languages.
Multiple Settings: There are a lot of settings to choose from which you can pick to customize SwiftKey. These settings include typing style, changing the color scheme, and even changing the size of the keys on the keyboard to make it easier for you to type. It also lets you see how to videos and shows you different statistics like how many typos it corrected and how accurately you type.
Cons
Typing long messages is hard: It uses swipe style typing which means you can just slide your finger across the screen to type words. Typing out long words and sentences with swipe is difficult and time consuming. It also makes it hard to see the letters you are trying to touch and hard to see the word suggestions which appear as you swipe your finger across the keyboard.
No way to edit user dictionary: Users have complained that if you add a word to the keyboard and type it in, SwiftKey will auto correct it to pick a different word. There is no way to manually edit the dictionary either.
In Conclusion
The app has a lofty rating with many users for its quick learning capability. It is very fast at learning your favorite words, and predicting just which words you use in certain situations. There aren’t any other keyboard apps out there that has the success of SwiftKey. Users have a couple of complaints, such as with the typing, and being unable to edit the user dictionary, but for most people, SwiftKey remains the best keyboard on the market. Best of all, it’s free, so you really have nothing to lose. So we definitely recommend you give this app a try if you’re a “heavy typer”.
